The Last of Us
Remember that time when we stood on the shore
and the light in the trees was a place we could enter,
and the old dog running ahead of us was a presence for us
to follow, and the wide sky overhead was the measure of our desire?
I remember the season, the green of the grass
and the softness of the air,
and I remember you standing beside me,
your hand in mine, your eyes filled with
the promise of forever.
But the seasons have changed, and the light
in the trees has faded, replaced by shadows
and echoes of what once was. The old dog is gone,
and the wide sky overhead is empty and grey.
