Sayan Aich Bhomwik is currently Assistant Professor, Department of English, Shirakole College, West Bengal, India. His debut collection of poems, I Will Come with a Lighthouse, was published in 2022. His poems have appeared in the South Florida Poetry Journal, Outlook Magazine, Punch Magazine, to name a few.
Drying Clothes
A constellation of stars
Dripping with the water of every river known to man
Hanging on nylon that could connect two continents.
These are clothes of every shape and size
Heavy with sorrow and laughter
They write about in dingy bars.
Late afternoon, their weight decreases
As if some invisible God has come
And sponged off all their grief.
It is time to return home
Dried, still warm, neatly arranged.
Dead soldiers all, returning one last time
With their wives and mothers
Waiting at the door.
