Under the Sun
People await a solar eclipse.
Await an explosion of cicadas.
Await another contagion.
The eclipse will not remember
how winter kills the cries
of insects singing through summer
nights. Coughs will cease.
Children will stare out a window
again, eager at their desks to play
instead for the candy sellers.
